Thiruvathirai Kali, is a classic Tamil dish made during the Thiruvathirai festival. This flavorful, mildly sweet dish is made with roasted rice, jaggery, and a hint of cardamom, offering a divine taste and aroma. It is traditionally paired with Ezhu Kari Kootu (7-vegetable stew).

Ingredients

  • Raw Rice- 1 cup Raw Rice
  • Jaggery- ¾ cup Jaggery (powdered)
  • Water- 2 cups Water
  • Moong Dal- 2 tbsp Moong Dal (optional, enhances taste)
  • Ghee- 2 tbsp Ghee
  • Cashews- 10 Cashews
  • Grated Coconut- 1 tbsp Grated Coconut (fresh)
  • Cardamon Powdered- ½ tsp Cardamom Powder
  • Salt- A pinch of Salt
